A Feng Shui Case I’ll Never Forget: When the House Doesn’t Choose You

In August 2023, I was hired to conduct a Feng Shui consultation for a newly purchased property. Out of respect for the client’s privacy, I won’t reveal the location.

From the moment I stepped into the unit, I knew this consultation was going to be challenging. The home had a direct and clear view of a high-voltage pylon — visible from the master bedroom, the fourth room, and even the living room. Being located on one of the lower floors only made the view more overpowering. In Feng Shui, this kind of external Sha Qi (煞气, or “killing energy”) can seriously disrupt the flow of positive Qi.

Then came the floor plan. When I placed my Luo Pan compass over it, another issue revealed itself — the unit had a missing sector. While missing sectors are fairly common in modern architecture, this particular corner aligned exactly with the house owner’s mother’s Life Gua direction.

In Feng Shui, each person is represented by a specific direction in the home. When that directional sector is missing, it symbolically “removes” that person’s presence from the space — often resulting in emotional, mental, or physical challenges over time. In this case, it was especially concerning, as the mother was already in her 60s.

As I carefully explained both the strengths and flaws of the property, the family listened intently. Eventually, they asked for my honest opinion.

I told them, “If possible, this unit is better suited for rental. Staying here long-term may lead to recurring health concerns — and the one who may suffer most is your mother. But, if you decide to live here, please keep a close eye on her well-being.”

They agreed and initially planned to rent it out. Since renovation hadn’t started yet, it was a practical decision — and rental demand in that location was strong.

But just a few days later, the client called me again. His voice was filled with emotion. He told me his mother had cried after the consultation. After working hard for so many years, finally buying a new home was a dream come true for her. Giving it up felt heartbreaking.

He asked, “Would it be okay if we just stayed here for a few years — maybe under five — while we plan for something better later? I just want my mum to feel proud and happy, at least for now.”

I said, “If this is the decision you've made, I’ll support you. Let me help realign the Feng Shui to boost your career so that you’ll have the resources to move to a better home when the time comes. But please — watch over your mother closely. She’s still the one I worry about most.”

And so, they moved in.

Since then, the client has invited me back every year for annual Feng Shui alignments.

As expected, his mother’s health has been inconsistent. She’s experienced multiple episodes of fever, restlessness, insomnia, and occasional emotional distress. Some months have been better than others — but the underlying concern has remained.

Still, there’s another side to the story.

Despite the challenges, the Feng Shui adjustments supported his personal growth. Over the past year, he received three salary increments and was promoted to Senior Manager. Just recently, his housing loan for a new property was approved. This time, he didn’t buy based on gut feeling — he brought me in from the very beginning.

We viewed several units together before selecting one that was energetically balanced and aligned for both him and his mother.

Previously, he bought with emotion. Now, he buys with intention.

That shift in awareness — from reactive decisions to conscious ones — is what I’m most grateful for.

Not every house is meant to be lived in.Sometimes, it’s just part of the journey that leads you to the right one.

💭 A gentle reminder from this experience:

While this client received three salary increments and was able to purchase another home, I hope this story is not misunderstood as a message that financial gains will always follow — even in a challenging Feng Shui setting.

In truth, his journey came with emotional and physical cost. His mother’s ongoing health concerns were a constant worry — and no level of career success can truly compensate for that.

So let this be a reminder: wealth and progress should never come at the expense of health or peace of mind. Good timing comes in many forms — and sometimes, choosing the right path means being patient, making wiser decisions, and honouring the well-being of those we love most.
